6. Amplification

The creation of numerous copies of a given DNA sequence, generally through the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Production of multiple copies of a DNA sequence, either in vivo or in vitro, starting with one or a few copies.

7. Autosome

A chromosome that is not a sex chromosome ("X' or "Y"). Autosomal recessive and autosomal dominant diseases are caused by mutations in genes that reside on one of the 22 paired autosomes. Non-autosomal chromosomes are usually referred to as sex chromosomes or, less frequently, as gonosomes.
